In the world of Japanese crafts, the katakuchi sake vessel(a vessel for holding cold sake)is unique in that it combines aesthetic elegance with deep cultural meaning. ZRAK’s Jakuretsu technique combines elements of traditional lacquerware and ceramics to create sake vessels that are both visually and functionally outstanding. These vessels are all made from paulownia wood, and the base is finished with multiple coats of a mixture of diatomaceout earth and raw lacquer. By adding a unique blend and applying multiple layers of lacquer, we have achieved a cracked, rough texture reminiscent of dry earth. Finding beauty in natural imperfection, this unique allows you to feel Japanese nature and culture every time you touch the vessel.
ZRAKーA vessel that splits time and embraces tranquility
What I have been looking for is not simply a beautiful piece of pottery, but a unique item imprinted with the traces of time. Fascinated by the beauty of the cracks, I made many prototypes and failed many times. I have wished to reglect in moderm pottery the spirit of “wabi-sabi” that flows through the cracks in the dry earth and the tranquil gardens of the Muromachi period.
ZRAK is neither pottery nor lacquerware.
Using his unique technique, which he calls the Jakuretsu Technique, and the rich texture of his lacquerware, Known as en-do lacquerware, the pieces have a unique look that is unlike any other in the world. Usong the power of materials and time, I pursue the aesthetics of quiet cracks. All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind. We deliver our products with love and determination. Wehope that when you touch these vessels, a quiet story will be born in your heart as well.
